Crooks Use Green Dot Scam for Advance Fee Fraud

On Thursday, October 17 at about 2:23 p.m. the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a Scam Alert to warn the public of a Phone Scam in which a caller states that they are from the Publishers Clearing House (PCH) and that you have won some type of cash or prize. The victim is directed to purchase a green dot debit credit card from any retailer and forward the card number back to the scammer in order to claim the prize. Once the scammer has the number of the debit credit card, the money is stolen. If you receive a call requesting that you purchase a money card, call the Sheriff’s Office at (518) 295-8114.
