  •  Food Sing, of Hudson, was inspected April 24 and cited with having open bags of flour and sugar in a backroom storage area uncovered, having storage racks in a walk-in cooler with accumulated food debris, having cardboard covering on shelves in a walk-in cooler, having no paper towels at the handwashing station in the kitchen, having a dirty storage shelf above a preparation refrigerator, having floors behind the cooking area and under equipment with food debris and grease accumulation, having an improper scoop in use in a plastic container with no handle stored in dry food product bins, having public restrooms with no soap or paper towels, having no visible thermometer in a refrigerator near the front counter, having wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer solution between uses and having knives improperly stored in between a counter and a refrigerator.
  •  The Greens Restaurant at Copake Country Club was inspected April 29 and cited with having garbage bags and empty bottles on the ground surrounding dumpsters and not having covered dumpsters. They were also cited with having floors with food debris and grease accumulation, having accumulated dried food debris underneath a slicer, having a storage room screen door wide open, having double stacking of food items in a walk-in cooler, having a wet floor in a walk-in cooler and having a coffee preparation area with a raw wood non-smooth finish.
  •  The Side Door Grille in Chatham was inspected April 30 and was cited with having an unshielded light fixture over a pizza oven.

  •  The Asian Café in Greenport was inspected April 14 and cited with having a plastic rice container in a bin of rice with no handle and having cooked chicken stored in improperly labeled vinegar containers.
  •  Bagel Time in Hudson was inspected April 14 and was not cited.
  •  O’s Hillsdale Country Diner was inspected April 14 and cited with having areas of floors in a basement food preparation area in disrepair with bare surfaces and having an open bag of bread crumbs in the basement dry storage area not protected.
  •  The A&W restaurant in Greenport was inspected April 15 and cited with having no visible thermometer in the small dessert refrigerator and having a men’s toilet seal that was leaking and causing a wet floor.

  •  Mep’s BBQ in Canaan was inspected Match 11 and cited for having an improperly maintained cutting board in the kitchen, which was found to have a pitted surface.
  •  The Backwater Grill in Canaan was inspected March 12 and cited for having a can of WD-40 stored among canned goods in kitchen dry storage, which was corrected at the time of inspection. It was also cited for not having a visible thermometer in the walk-in cooler, having an accumulation of spilled debris in a microwave, not having wiping cloths stored properly in sanitizing solution between uses, having dirty conditions underneath and around the meat slicer and grease accumulation above the grill area.
  •  The Hitchinpost Cafe in New Lebanon was inspected March 17 and was not cited.
  •  New China City in New Lebanon was inspected March 17 and cited for having food debris on the outside of a refrigerator, having unshielded lights over the stove, having open bags of rice in a dry storage area, having chest freezers with an improperly maintained accumulation of ice and having spilled food debris on the shelves on a walk-in cooler.     
  •  Kozel’s Restaurant in Ghent was inspected March 24 and was not cited.
  •  Jackson’s Old Chatham House in Chatham was inspected March 25 and cited for having a bottle of Pine-Sol cleaner stored on top of a freezer in a backroom storage area, which was corrected at the time of the inspection. It was also cited for having a dirty meat slicer with food debris, having an unshielded light fixture over dry storage freezers and having grease accumulation on the floors behind the stove and fryers.
  •  Martindale Chief Diner in Claverack was inspected March 30 and was not cited.
  •  Taconic Wayside Inn was inspected March 31 and was not cited.

  •  Four Brothers in Kinderhook was inspected March 4 and cited for improperly storing spatulas between a wall and a prep table, having lettuce in a walk-in cooler stored in a garbage can container with no liner on it, not having wiping cloths stored in bleach solution between uses, and having live and dead inspects in a basement dry storage area.
  •  The Elizaville Diner and Deli in Livingston was inspected March 9 and cited for having a dirty salad prep refrigerator with spilled food debris, having dirty floor surfaces and not having the current permit posted.

  • The following restaurants were inspected by the Columbia County Department of health during the month of March:
  • Bagel Tyme in Hudson was inspected on March 12 and no violations were found.
  • Red Chopstick in Hudson was inspected on March 14 and no violations were found.
  • Columbia Diner in Valatie was inspected on March 18 and was cited for having a bottle of Airwick air freshener and Tylenol stored on the shelf with food prep items. The diner was also found to have multiple foods uncovered in a walk-in cooler. The walk-in freeze was reported by an inspector to be in disrepair.
  • Hudson Subway & Food Court was inspected on March 12 and no violations were reported.
  • Jimmy D’s Pizza Royale in New Lebanon was inspected on March 13 and no violations were reported.
  • McDonald’s in Valatie was inspected on March 22 and cited for not storing wiping cloths in sanitizing solution between uses.
  • Mep’s BBQ in Canaan was inspected on March 7 and cited for grease accumulation on the floor and wall around the grill area.
  • O’Kenny’s Express in Valatie was inspected on March 28 and cited for not having the turkey gravy held hot enough, and for not storing wiping cloths in sanitizing solution between uses.
  • Palatine Park Pizza in Germantown was inspected on March 28 and cited for an accumulation of food debris on the top and front surfaces of a stove. The restaurant was also cited for storing paint cans underneath a slicer in the kitchen.
  • West Taghkanic Diner in Taghkanic was inspected on March 5 and cited for having a fan cover with accumulation of dust in the walk-in cooler.

Dec. 2010 restaurant inspections
Posted: January 27, 2011

  • The Bell’s Pond Xtra Mart was inspected Dec. 13. The inspector noted that the “exterior of kitchen equipment, refrigerators and tables” were not clean and the “meat slicer (is) not cleaned at appropriate intervals.” The inspector witnessed bare hand contact on a hard roll; the roll was discarded. The outside of a plastic storage bin for raisins was not clean and the inside of a convection oven was dirty/greasy.
  • Ca’Mea Restaurant in Hudson was inspected Dec. 10. No violations were found.
  • Chu Garden in Valatie was inspected Dec. 15. The inspector reported that cardboard and cloth were “covering food items in walk-in with mildew.”
  • Daba in Hudson was inspected Dec. 23. No violations were found.
  • Hillsdale House in Hillsdale was inspected Dec. 16. A light in the dishwashing area had no protective cover. A pizza refrigerator was missing a thermometer and a small refrigerator had a broken thermometer. An exhaust hood filter was broken. The inspector noted that a back store room with miscellaneous items was creating a “harborage area” for “rodents, insects and other vermin.”
  • King’s Wok in Valatie was inspected Dec. 16. An improper food dispensing utensil, marked as a “bowl with no handles” was stored in noodles. An exhaust fan was dripping grease and the inspector found “unlabeled flour and sugar” which was corrected during the time of the inspection.
  • Swoon Kitchenbar in Hudson was inspected Dec. 30. No violations were found.
  • Mario’s Restaurant in New Lebanon was inspected Dec. 20. The inspector found glasses stored in serving ice bins behind the bar. No thermometer was found in the cook’s line prep cooler and small black refrigerator at wait station. No choking poster was displayed.
  • Melino’s Pub in Hudson was inspected Dec. 20. No choking poster was displayed.
  • Savoia Restaurant in Hudson was inspected Dec. 31. Their current permit was not displayed.
  • Swiss Hutte Restaurant in Hillsdale was inspected Dec. 23. No violations were found.
  • Mexican Radio in Hudson was inspected Dec. 31. The inspector found a “hole in the ceiling in the basement food preparation area,” and “no sanitizer in all buckets for wiping cloths.” The sanitizer violation was corrected during the inspection. The inspector noted that the floor mats in the kitchen were “greasy, dirty,” and that the back-entry doors were “not vermin-proof.” The inspector also found combustible materials stored next to a furnace and food service gloves stored underneath cleaners and cleaning chemicals. A basement ceiling and wall were noted to be in disrepair.
  • Wunderbar Bistro was inspected Dec. 23. The men’s restroom did not have a hand wash sign. This was corrected during the inspection.
  • The Red Dot in Hudson was inspected Dec. 23. No cleaning cloths were found in a sanitized solution. An ice scoop was stored on top of the ice machine.
  • New Food Star in Hudson was inspected Dec. 30. No employee hand wash sign or paper towels were found in the restroom. The inspector found a glass plate in use to scoop rice out of a storage bin in the walk-in cooler. The inspector noted that a white upright freezer had an “accumulation of food debris,”  and noticed a cooking exhaust hood with missing filters.

  • Chatham Chinese Restaurant was inspected Oct. 10. Improper scoops were in use in bags of flour and sugar in a back room dry storage area. Wiping cloths were not stored in sanitizing solution between uses.
  • Red Barn in Ghent was inspected Oct. 21. No violations were found.
  • Spring Garden in Greenport Oct. 25. Numerous food items were found uncovered in a stainless steel refrigeration unit in front of the stove. The backroom dry storage unit had shelves that were dirty with food debris with raw wood surfaces. A fan in the walk-in cooler was found with an accumulation of dust and grease. Areas of the floor were in disrepair or missing tiles. No hand soap was found in the employee restroom.
  • The Pond in Ancram was inspected Oct. 28. An inspector found a “home style wood block knife holder” being used to store utensils. A microwave in the cooks’ line area was dirty with buildup of food debris.
  • Zia’s Pizza and Wings in Valatie was inspected Oct. 14. An inspector found the restaurant operating with an expired permit. No chlorine bleach was found in a cleaning cloth bucket; this was corrected during inspection.
  • Zia’s Pizza in Chatham was inspected Oct. 26. A box of chicken was found stored on the floor in a cooler. A loose bag of garbage was found on the ground in the back of a restaurant; this was corrected during inspection. No employee hand wash sign was found in the employee restroom.

  • The following restaurants were inspected by the Columbia County Department of health during the month of March:
  • Bagel Tyme in Hudson was inspected on March 12 and no violations were found.
  • Red Chopstick in Hudson was inspected on March 14 and no violations were found.
  • Columbia Diner in Valatie was inspected on March 18 and was cited for having a bottle of Airwick air freshener and Tylenol stored on the shelf with food prep items. The diner was also found to have multiple foods uncovered in a walk-in cooler. The walk-in freeze was reported by an inspector to be in disrepair.
  • Hudson Subway & Food Court was inspected on March 12 and no violations were reported.
  • Jimmy D’s Pizza Royale in New Lebanon was inspected on March 13 and no violations were reported.
  • McDonald’s in Valatie was inspected on March 22 and cited for not storing wiping cloths in sanitizing solution between uses.
  • Mep’s BBQ in Canaan was inspected on March 7 and cited for grease accumulation on the floor and wall around the grill area.
  • O’Kenny’s Express in Valatie was inspected on March 28 and cited for not having the turkey gravy held hot enough, and for not storing wiping cloths in sanitizing solution between uses.
  • Palatine Park Pizza in Germantown was inspected on March 28 and cited for an accumulation of food debris on the top and front surfaces of a stove. The restaurant was also cited for storing paint cans underneath a slicer in the kitchen.
  • West Taghkanic Diner in Taghkanic was inspected on March 5 and cited for having a fan cover with accumulation of dust in the walk-in cooler.

  • The Bell’s Pond Xtra Mart was inspected Dec. 13. The inspector noted that the “exterior of kitchen equipment, refrigerators and tables” were not clean and the “meat slicer (is) not cleaned at appropriate intervals.” The inspector witnessed bare hand contact on a hard roll; the roll was discarded. The outside of a plastic storage bin for raisins was not clean and the inside of a convection oven was dirty/greasy.
  • Ca’Mea Restaurant in Hudson was inspected Dec. 10. No violations were found.
  • Chu Garden in Valatie was inspected Dec. 15. The inspector reported that cardboard and cloth were “covering food items in walk-in with mildew.”
  • Daba in Hudson was inspected Dec. 23. No violations were found.
  • Hillsdale House in Hillsdale was inspected Dec. 16. A light in the dishwashing area had no protective cover. A pizza refrigerator was missing a thermometer and a small refrigerator had a broken thermometer. An exhaust hood filter was broken. The inspector noted that a back store room with miscellaneous items was creating a “harborage area” for “rodents, insects and other vermin.”
  • King’s Wok in Valatie was inspected Dec. 16. An improper food dispensing utensil, marked as a “bowl with no handles” was stored in noodles. An exhaust fan was dripping grease and the inspector found “unlabeled flour and sugar” which was corrected during the time of the inspection.
  • Swoon Kitchenbar in Hudson was inspected Dec. 30. No violations were found.
  • Mario’s Restaurant in New Lebanon was inspected Dec. 20. The inspector found glasses stored in serving ice bins behind the bar. No thermometer was found in the cook’s line prep cooler and small black refrigerator at wait station. No choking poster was displayed.
  • Melino’s Pub in Hudson was inspected Dec. 20. No choking poster was displayed.
  • Savoia Restaurant in Hudson was inspected Dec. 31. Their current permit was not displayed.
  • Swiss Hutte Restaurant in Hillsdale was inspected Dec. 23. No violations were found.
  • Mexican Radio in Hudson was inspected Dec. 31. The inspector found a “hole in the ceiling in the basement food preparation area,” and “no sanitizer in all buckets for wiping cloths.” The sanitizer violation was corrected during the inspection. The inspector noted that the floor mats in the kitchen were “greasy, dirty,” and that the back-entry doors were “not vermin-proof.” The inspector also found combustible materials stored next to a furnace and food service gloves stored underneath cleaners and cleaning chemicals. A basement ceiling and wall were noted to be in disrepair.
  • Wunderbar Bistro was inspected Dec. 23. The men’s restroom did not have a hand wash sign. This was corrected during the inspection.
  • The Red Dot in Hudson was inspected Dec. 23. No cleaning cloths were found in a sanitized solution. An ice scoop was stored on top of the ice machine.
  • New Food Star in Hudson was inspected Dec. 30. No employee hand wash sign or paper towels were found in the restroom. The inspector found a glass plate in use to scoop rice out of a storage bin in the walk-in cooler. The inspector noted that a white upright freezer had an “accumulation of food debris,”  and noticed a cooking exhaust hood with missing filters.

  • Chatham Chinese Restaurant was inspected Oct. 10. Improper scoops were in use in bags of flour and sugar in a back room dry storage area. Wiping cloths were not stored in sanitizing solution between uses.
  • Red Barn in Ghent was inspected Oct. 21. No violations were found.
  • Spring Garden in Greenport Oct. 25. Numerous food items were found uncovered in a stainless steel refrigeration unit in front of the stove. The backroom dry storage unit had shelves that were dirty with food debris with raw wood surfaces. A fan in the walk-in cooler was found with an accumulation of dust and grease. Areas of the floor were in disrepair or missing tiles. No hand soap was found in the employee restroom.
  • The Pond in Ancram was inspected Oct. 28. An inspector found a “home style wood block knife holder” being used to store utensils. A microwave in the cooks’ line area was dirty with buildup of food debris.
  • Zia’s Pizza and Wings in Valatie was inspected Oct. 14. An inspector found the restaurant operating with an expired permit. No chlorine bleach was found in a cleaning cloth bucket; this was corrected during inspection.
  • Zia’s Pizza in Chatham was inspected Oct. 26. A box of chicken was found stored on the floor in a cooler. A loose bag of garbage was found on the ground in the back of a restaurant; this was corrected during inspection. No employee hand wash sign was found in the employee restroom.
