Michael Eigo, 63, of Greenport was only in the courtroom for a few minutes Tuesday with his attorney, Bernard Brady when Judge Jonathan Nichols declared at the lawyer’s request he would meet with Eigo, Brady and assistant district attorney Robert Gibson in his chambers.

Eigo pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless endangerment on Jan. 22 after shooting his 52-year-old friend at close range with a .357-caliber pistol. The shooting occurred at Eigo’s home on Fingar Road on Feb. 22, 2012. After a struggle over the handgun a single shot went through the man’s hand and his upper leg. Because Eigo pled guilty to this class D felony he could face up to seven years in prison.
