The county’s Airport Committee did not clear its recommendation to implement a 1,000-foot runway safety zone at Columbia County Airport in Ghent on Wednesday for takeoff.

Supervisor Mike Benson, R-New Lebanon, returned Wednesday, after a five-meeting absence, armed with two alternatives to the recommended “Porreca Plan” that suggests takeoff and landing distances on the 5,350-foot runway could be shortened to 5,000-feet by pushing the runway further south.
