HUDSON — Hudson Police Commissioner Gary Graziano is close to appointing a new police chief. One of the top candidates for the job is State Police Sgt. Laurence E. Moore of the Troop K Barracks, as confirmed by a senior city official.

Based on the city’s charter, it is Graziano’s sole decision to make the appointment of the chief. Ellis Richardson, the former chief, retired as of Monday. Mayor William Hallenbeck, who appointed Graziano, said that he has been regularly briefed on the interview process and will have a voice in the decision. “Ultimately, the appointment itself is done by the police commissioner,” said Hallenbeck.
