Nat’l Grid takes eminent domain off the table

National Grid, who represent NY Transco, one of the four companies vying for the transmission lines expansion project, plan to stay within utility-owned right-of-ways and will not require any additional land, effectively removing eminent domain possibilities from their proposal.

“In the first part of the proposal proceedings, Transco was asked to submit a preliminary plan which looked at numerous ways the project could be done,” Kevin Cushing, National Grid’s stakeholder manager, said. “So what happened is we released numerous proposed plans of action for the upgrades and some of them used eminent domain, but we never planned to go that route. We believe it caused a lot of misinformation.”
