HUDSON — Hudson City School District Board of Education Vice President Elizabeth Fout abruptly announced her resignation Monday evening following the latest round of extended closed door meetings held by the board.

Fout, whose term wasn’t due to end until 2014, cited the recent death of a neighbor before saying she was resigning, stood up and left midway through the public portion of the board’s meeting. The board held an hour-long executive session beforehand, one of a handful of extended closed door sessions the board has had in the last two months to discuss matters relating to former high school Principal Thomas Gavin and an investigation into charges he sexually harassed Superintendent Maria Suttmeier.
