The former Martin Van Buren Elementary School in Kinderhook is undergoing a facelift to become The School: A cultural destination for select work from the Jack Shainman Gallery collection and venue for special exhibitions.

Jack Shainman Gallery was founded in 1984 in Washington, D.C. The gallery later relocated to New York City. In 2013, the gallery added to exhibition spaces, one in New York City and the other to be known as, The School, located at 25 Broad St., Kinderhook.
