Interior renovation gives Dairy Queen a new look
For the past several years, Martin Silver, owner of the Dairy Queen in Ghent, has been consistently working to make his restaurant a better place for patrons and his employees. Two years ago, he added a drive-thru window to make it more convenient for customers and last year, he renovated the whole exterior of the building. In February, he finished renovating the entire interior of the dining room. All new tables and chairs, cushioned booths, tile flooring and soft cream colors make the new dining room a more enjoyable place to sit down and have a meal or just hang out with friends and a Blizzard. “We really just wanted to look great for the 21st century and the community,” said Silver. Dairy Queen’s spring hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.

Steve and Penny Hermance of East Chatham are ready for St. Patrick’s Day with all of their decorations. Penny said she carries on the tradition of decorating the front of their home for the holidays. St. Patrick’s Day is an annual feast day that celebrates the most commonly recognized patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. Since it falls on a Wednesday this year, most celebrations will take place the weekend before. On Wednesday, March 3, Dan’s Diner in Spencertown reopened its doors to the public. The diner is a 1925, 18-seat Jerry O’Mahony diner built in Elizabeth, NJ and purchased by Spencertown resident Dan Rundell, a mason by trade and an avid collector of American diner memorabilia. He fully restored the diner, spending nearly 12 years bringing what was originally sold as scrap back to its original grandeur. Some unique features include a curved oak ceiling with hand-painted gold-leaf treatment, subway tile floors and wainscoting and frosted windows with etched glass illustration. The diner is now under the management of Jamie Abitabile and Dottie “Lou” Horton Kratt, who say that the diner — which only has counter seating inside due to space constrictions — will also have an outdoor dining area as the weather gets warmer. The diner is open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
