MY VIEW: ‘Fix is in’ plan is set for Taghkanic

The elections, the court case and the counting are over in the now famous town of Taghkanic. But is it over? As a veteran of county politics I can caution all the residents of the town when I quote “it’s not over til it’s over” and in politics, it’s never over.

Recently I had the pleasure of sitting down with a few old Republican friends and like always the conversation turned to county politics and of course they trust me with their anonymity — a trust I earned. Our meeting revealed two important points; one, they are not pleased with the party’s unsought strategies to disenfranchise voters who pay the bulk of town taxes; and two, that by seeding the Independence Party the county Republican chairmen, Fingar, is weakening the base.

So I gave them my view on what the plan is for Taghkanic and they smiled shook their heads in agreement and said, “We sure would like you back.” In my view, the Fix Is In, Again. The plan was quite simple, so simple I almost missed it. The Republicans asked Taghkanic Supervisor Betty Young to pony up for all the covering up they have done for her over the years and run one more term or at least until the Republicans take back the Governor’s seat, which they are almost certain to do.

When the new Republican Governor is elected, Betty Young will then announce her retirement. Now here comes the interesting part; She will probably nominate Tyree from Independence party spewing a bunch of hogwash about how she feels that both parties are too divided to benefit the people. However, the Taghkanic Town Board is evenly divided and her pick will not be approved, she can recommend but she can’t vote on her recommendation however she can appoint a deputy and it was Tyree, the billionaire’s go-for boy and John Faso new found pet.

Then the newly elected Governor will be forced into appointing a new Supervisor and he (the Governor) will probably agree with the Republican Committee Chairman Fingar, Betty Young and wanna-be John Faso that maybe an Independence Party member is the way to go for now, Especially with big money for the taking. But now the plot thickens. Let’s look at the Independence Party in Taghkanic and ask ourselves who in that party was a Republican in this last election, where did the largest donation come from, and who has enough hard cash to impose his will on the gubernatorial election?

Of course I hope you all know the answer to that. If you think the Republicans haven’t been shifting their members over to seed the Independence party think again after you see how many of the County Sheriff’s boys David Harrison has sent over to that party to hide the fact that his office is Republican clubhouse. Of course the Republicans will always rely on the county workers they refer to as Joe Six-Pack, a term I feel degrades many a good worker, to fall right into the propaganda trap and just vote blindly on their version of the truth.

Oh yes! In my view the Fix is in! And shame on you Betty Young for thinking I would just go away and let this happen, you and John Faso. This view was composed on January 28, 2010 and submitted on January 30, 2010 after the Taghkanic organizational meeting. Now I ask you folks, do you have a view?

" Rick Graham is right on the money! And unfortunately, the newly elected Democrat council members are already bending over backwards to make friends with the Republicans and Independence Party members. They must figure if they play nice, they will like them better, maybe things will change. How naive. The only thing that will be accomplished is nothing. The same old government that Taghkanic has been subject to for decades. What seemed like a huge leap forward after the election is looking like a huge step backwards. I am hoping the newly elected Democrats grow into their positions and at least be a strong presence like Erin Edwards was. She wasn't focused on being liked, she focused on what was in the best interest of the town. She will be missed... "

" Yes, I have a view and if differs greatly from yours. This letter sounds like something a real insider would write. I knew nothing of you before reading this letter so I have no preconceived bias and I apparently must have been living under a rock not to. Only time will tell how good a prognosticator you are. I'm wondering if I should bother to vote for governor with your relative certainty of the outcome. As an insider, tell me, is the fix in there too? One might think you were coaching an athletic team and not operating from a place of principle.
I'm disturbed that you are so dismissive of the laudable attempts to shine a light on the current voting status quo. That is, people with questionable residency and allegiance intent on transforming the political landscape (thus our way of life) of this county from afar. I don't like giving outsiders that power over me and I don't understand those that do. I assure you that their intentions are not benevolent. By the way, I feel disenfranchised knowing that my vote is being negated by someone that should not be voting here.
Aren't all elections local? The liberal strategy must be to infiltrate at the voting roots. This makes their strategy even more sinister and dire.
Is it really relevant that these questionable residents pay the bulk of town taxes? Does that entitle them to something more than the rest of us? You are obviously swayed by it. This sounds like emanations from someone that is a bit too calculating and connected.

For tax purposes, New York State defines a full time resident as someone that resides in the state/county for more than 183 days in aggregate. It would seem reasonable to apply that same standard to voting. Why should wealthier people have the advantage of picking and choosing their residency for voting purposes but not tax purposes. Is Columbia County serving as tax haven for the wealthy to avoid paying the higher New York City taxes? I feel used and abused.

After reading this I had visions of a cross between Boss Hogg and the Wizard of Oz who are concerned about their loss of influence. It's funny that you describe the existence of a republican clubhouse because I was thinking that you sounded like a country club republican when you recounted your meeting with friends. I may be Joe six pack but that does not make me oblivious. To me, Joe six pack is not an insult. So, don't feel compelled to look after me as I am quite capable. "

" Well said "SayWhat". I can't even think of anything to add to it. Other than its funny I've never heard of Mr. Graham other then his rants in the paper, apparently he's quite the somebody. "

" How come those who are concerned about newcomers voting in Taghkanic are not equally concerned about an unelected newcomer of questionable allegiance being appointed deputy Supervisor? Who has more right to help decide what goes on in Taghkanic - part-time resident homeowner, or John Faso and Greg Fingar? What strings are they pulling in your town? "
