An Albany County woman has been charged with grand larceny for allegedly stealing from an elderly man while he was living in a local nursing home.
Lisa A. Nagel, 46, of Cohoes allegedly befriended an elderly man, gained power of attorney for the man and then proceeded to collect the proceeds from the sale of his home and property beginning in September 2008, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
She was arrested Nov. 18 by the Sheriff’s Office for allegedly stealing $28,083.06 from the sale of the man’s land.
Nagel also received and cashed the victim’s social security checks while living in various locations in Saratoga County said authorities.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, additional charges are pending against Nagel and other agencies are also investigating, including the Social Security Administration, the New York State Police and the Saratoga County Department of Social Services.
The Sheriff’s investigation began when members of the Columbia County Department of Social Services Adult Protective Unit contacted Sheriff’s Investigators.
Nagel was picked up by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and turned over to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison Jr., stated in a press release that his agency’s relationship with DSS helped bring about the arrest.
“We will continue to do everything within the law we can to stop these types of crimes against Senior Citizen’s in Columbia County,” he stated.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone with information on this or a similar crime call them at 518-828-4316.
