I would like to publicly thank the Columbia Memorial Medical Imaging Department, along with Columbia Memorial Surgical Associates, for partnering with the Cancer Services Program of Columbia & Greene Counties for the Free Breast Screening Night held on Oct. 29, 2009 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Columbia Memorial Medical Imaging and Surgical Associates contacted our program, The Cancer Services Program of Columbia & Greene Counties, to see if we could partner with them when they held the screening night. We are so fortunate to have Columbia Memorial Hospital be so committed to the community. The entire staff at both offices not only fully supported the idea but decided to run with it as well. The event was held on Thursday evening, 5:30-7 p.m., to accommodate women who are busy working during the day and often find it challenging to make appointments without having to take time off. Posters hung everywhere you could think of in an effort to advertise this event.

On the night of the event, energy was high as staff and patients alike were abuzz with excitement; pink balloons floated all about, marking the way to the offices and to the imaging department where patients were met with a warm and comforting welcome. Pink ribbon cookies were made from scratch by the medical receptionist. We were able to screen 16 patients for free between Columbia Memorial Hospital and the Cancer Services Program of Columbia & Greene. This was such an exciting and well attended event that Columbia Memorial Hospital in partnership with the Cancer Services Program of Columbia & Greene plans to hold another screening night this coming February in honor of Valentine’s Day.

The Cancer Services Program of Columbia & Greene Counties is funded by the New York state Department of Health Cancer Services Program and is a program of the Healthcare Consortium. We offer free breast and cervical screenings to women over 40 years old and colon cancer screening to women and men 50 years or older. For more information, please contact (518) 822-8741.
