In 1929, a large brick building was constructed on Coleman Street in the village of Chatham as a retirement home for older members of the community. The home was the dream of philanthropist and prominent Chatham businessman Louis F. Payn. After his death in 1923, his estate was left as the location for the home, which he endowed in his own name. On Saturday, Nov. 14, residents and family members gathered to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the foundation.
