A structure fire at the residence of Hudson Fire Chief Robert Pulver was quickly extinguished by Hudson firefighters Thursday.
According to County 911, a call was received by them at 3:26 p.m. indicating smoke coming from the second floor of the building at 531 State St. in Hudson.
Hudson First Assistant Fire Chief Craig Haigh said there was no one home at the time of the fire and that a neighbor heard the smoke detector going off and called it in.
Acting quickly, Hudson firefighters knocked the blaze down within minutes.
The time was given as 3:39 p.m., 13 minutes after 911 received the initial call.
While the fire was handled quickly, heavy smoke remained. Haigh said the fire was contained to the second floor, but there was smoke and water damage on the first and third floors.
“The fire was knocked down very quickly,” Haigh said Thursday night. “The guys did a great job.”
Both the Catskill Fire Department and Greenport Number 1 stood by at Hudson’s station.
No one was reportedly hurt in the incident.
The Columbia County cause and origin team and Hudson Police Department were called in to investigate.
The cause of the fire is still undeteremined, but Haigh said at this time it appears to have been accidental.
