Ellen Gellert

Ellen Gellert

Ellen Gellert, fantastic wife of Joe Gellert, loving mother to Stephen and Molly Gellert and loyal fan of the New York Mets, surpassed the Yankees' 27 World Championships with her 30 consecutive “Worlds Best Mom” titles. She passed away while surrounded by her devoted family on Saturday, November 7, 2009 in her home in Chappaqua, New York. Ellen battled lung cancer for two and a half years in the same manner as she faced all aspects of her life: with grace, courage and a great sense of humor. She was born in Brooklyn on July 7, 1948 to Gabriel and Jeanne Gelber and grew up in Great Neck. She received her Master's in Education from NYU and made a difference in many students' lives as a tutor in Pleasantville, NY. Ellen was highly active in the Chappaqua community where she served as a president of the PTA and also helped establish and lead the Mitzvah Committee at Temple Beth El, a group which provided meals and support to congregants in mourning.   She will be greatly missed by all and to quote Ellen, “peace, love and have a ball.”

Services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, November 10 at Beecher Funeral Home located at 418 Bedford Road in Pleasantville. Burial will follow in Great Barrington, MA. The family will be sitting shiva starting Wednesday at their home in Chappaqua
