Northern Dutchess Hospital announces visitor restrictions

Published:

In an effort to protect its patients from exposure to the seasonal and 2009 H1N1 (swine) influenza virus, Northern Dutchess Hospital has revised its patient visitor policy. In accordance with national standards, NDH is taking a proactive approach to limit potential patient, staff and visitor exposure to the 2009 H1N1 and seasonal influenza virus.

During this period of flu pandemic, the new visitor restrictions are:

n  Two visitors at a time are allowed per patient.

n  No visitors under the age of 14 will be permitted in the hospital unless they are seeking care.

n  No visitors with signs of the flu (fever, cough, body aches) will be permitted to enter.

Support groups that involve children under the age of 14 will continue to run in the lower level conference area, as well as Pre-Op Tours for pediatric patients.

Additionally, any individual who has been exposed to or who has come in contact with someone who has the flu should not visit the hospital. Visitors will be asked to wash their hands upon entering the hospital and frequently during their visit. Sinks and waterless hand sanitizer are available in all areas of the hospital.

The new restrictions, which will remain in effect for the foreseeable future, were developed in accordance with guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Northern Dutchess Hospital, a Health Quest affiliate, is a 68-bed, acute care hospital located in Rhinebeck. The Health Quest system includes Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie and Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.
