Saugerties Slam Featuring WWE Stars

St. Mary of the Snow school presents Northeast Wrestling’s “Saugerties Slam” on today at 7:30 p.m. The event takes place at Saugerties High School and will be headlined by WWE’s Mr. Kennedy and WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler. Proceeds from the event benefit the St. Mary of the Snow Playground Project. In the spirit of Veterans Day, general admission tickets for active or retired military personnel and family with military ID are only $10 each at the door that night.

Hudson Elks Hoop Shoot

The Hudson Elks Lodge No. 787 will conduct its Annual Hoop Shoot at the Hudson High School on today at 1 p.m.

The contest is open to all youth ages 8-13 who reside in the Hudson City School District with the contestant age as of April 1, 2010. The contest is free of charge and the winners of each division will advance to regional competition in January.

First-, second- and third-place trophies will be awarded in each category. Each contestant will shoot 25 free throws. Please call 828-7079 for any additional information.

Accepting Registrations for Valatie Veterans 5K Run

The 4th annual Valatie Veterans 5K run, sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 114 of Valatie, will be held on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The run begins and ends at Glynn Square in Valatie. The race starts at 10 a.m., followed by a Veteran’s Memorial Ceremony at 11 am. Awards will be handed out after the ceremony.


Registration is $15 and can be done online at www.active.com or a registration form can be found at www.mhcable.com/~bsa114/. Day of race registration is $20 and begins at 9 a.m. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants. Early packet pickup is available Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. and Nov. 10 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Valatie.

All net proceeds of the race will be used to support Troop 114’s 2010 Out West High Adventure Trip.

Ichabod Crane Midnight Madness Basketball

Ichabod Crane will hold its second annual basketball midnight madness on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the high school. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The Riders are inviting all fans to the Pep Rally which will be held in the gymnasium. The night will be filled with prizes, contests, music, food and basketball. Admission is one nonperishable food item that will be donated to the Valatie food pantry.

There will also be tickets available to purchase for a Nov. 14 chicken dinner by OK Kenny’s Barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a hypnotist show starting at 7 p.m. to support the boys varsity basketball team’s trip to Disney World. The Ichabod Crane School Board has granted permission to the Riders to attend the KSA Basketball Tournament at Disney in Orlando, Fla. in late December.

The team is also accepting donations and sponsors for the trip. Tickets for the events can be purchased and sponsorship information can be picked up at the Midnight Madness event, from varsity boys basketball players and the ICC high school foyer by calling 518-542-8907.

The ICC boys will make the trip to Disney World on Dec. 27, and are currently scheduled in the “Blue” Bracket with teams from Florida, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Virginia. Ichabod Crane will be the smallest school in the bracket with the other schools sized 2A and up.

Turkey Shoot

The Polish Sportsmen’s Club will host a turkey shoot on Nov. 15 beginning at 9 a.m. For more information call 828-0375.

Coxsackie Handgun Safety Course

There will be a handgun safety course at the Coxsackie Sportsmen’s Club on Reservoir Road in West Coxsackie on Nov. 15 at 9 a.m.

This course is required to apply for a pistol license in Greene County. It is suggested that students contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office to obtain an application package prior to attending.
