Democrats sweep Copake town positions

COPAKE — The Copake Democrats won elections across the board on Tuesday, managing to keep their incumbent positions safe, while getting a clean sweep by unseating David Gordineer for town assessor.
Democratic incumbents Linda Gabaccia and Bob Sacks won seats on the Copake Town Board with 513 votes and 479 votes respectively, beating Republican challengers Joseph LaPorta with 450 votes, and Harvey J. Weber with 440.
Sacks was the only candidate reached after the election.
“I’m glad the election is over,” Sacks told the Register-Star. “It’s time to get back to work, it was a horrible distraction.”
He went on to say that he felt his opponents had run their campaigns in vastly different manners.
“Joe handled himself like an honest man,” he said. “I wish I could say the same thing for Harvey, who ran his campaign on innuendoes and misinformation.”
The position of town justice was won by Democratic incumbent Brian J. Herman with 552 votes, beating Republican opponent and former justice William Kane with 390 votes.
Democratic challenger Loredana Delventhal also beat Republican opponent David Gordineer for the position of assessor by a margin of 500 votes to 390.
All election results are unofficial, pending routine recanvassing and the counting of absentee ballots.
