Andrews ahead by narrow margin in supervisor race
By Francesca Olsen
At the end of election night, it was a tight race in Claverack, with incumbent Supervisor Republican Jim Keegan earning 881 votes to Democrat Robin Andrews’ 888.
“I feel like we ran a good campaign. I imagine we’ll check those numbers,” Andrews said. “I feel pretty good about it ... I think that we both ran a clean race, and I’m really please with how close it is. It’s a tough race to win, and I feel really proud.”
There are about 130 absentee ballots to count.
Keegan was reached at home after the county Board of Elections posted Claverack’s results; his wife picked up the phone, mentioning the late evening hour, and, speaking for her husband, said “you can call tomorrow morning when people are awake.”
The Claverack Town Board seats up for grabs stayed Republican, with incumbent Republican Michael Johnston with 964 votes and Republican Robert Preusser with 842. Democrat Morgen Bowers got 695 votes and Democrat Matt Bowe got 611 votes.
Jim Folz, running on the Conservative ticket for Town Board, told the Register-Star last week he had planned on dropping out of the race, but was too late to officially do it. He got 124 votes.
Incumbent Assessor, Republican Charles Brewer, won the race, with 945 votes. Democratic candidate Ian Nitschke got 671.
Running unopposed, Town Clerk Mary Hoose got 1,185 votes. Running unopposed, Town Justice Charles Edwin Hoag Jr. got 1,040 votes. Also unopposed, Highway Superintendent Louis LaMont got 671 votes.
All election results are unofficial, pending routine recanvassing and the counting of absentee ballots.
