Republican candidate Pat Grattan won the race against incumbent Doug McGivney for Kinderhook Town Supervisor on Tuesday by a margin of 1,773 to 1,014.

“I’m grateful for everyone’s support,” Grattan told the Register-Star, “and looking forward to working with people of all parties in the future.”

He also added that although he was surprised to have won the election by such a large margin, he was happy to have the support of the people of the community.

“I’m astonished,” he said, “but grateful.”

Long-time Supervisor Doug McGivney, though unhappy with the results, took the loss well, even driving over to shake hands and congratulate the new supervisor.

“It looks like this is my last hoorah,” McGivney told a crowd of his supporters after the results came in. “I had a good run, and it’s been fun. I really thought we would do better, our team has been fantastic.”

He went on to say that he wishes his competition the best of luck, and plans to do everything he can to help Grattan get started as supervisor, making a point to say that the loss of the election did not diminish his interest in the town.

Republican candidates Patsy Leader and Glenn Smith also won seats on the Town Board with 1,571, and 1,420 votes respectively, against their Democratic opponents Helen Schneider with 1,134 votes and Todd Digrigoli with 1,155 votes.

Republican candidate Lisa Mills also beat opponent Natalie Kolb by a margin of 1,544 votes to 1,143.

John Ruchel Jr. was unchallenged for the position of the town Highway Superintendent.

All election results are unofficial, pending routine recanvassing and the counting of absentee ballots.
