A Hudson man was arrested for allegedly stabbing someone outside of a Halloween weekend rap battle in Greenport early Saturday morning.
According to the New York State Police who investigated the incident, Jonathan Jones, 40, stabbed a 31-year-old Hudson man in the parking lot of the Moose Club on Town Hall Drive in Greenport around 2:30 a.m.
The incident occurred just as the event inside the Moose Club was ending.
“They’ve had a few of them over there,” said NYS Police at Livingston Investigator William Mulrein of the music events where rappers compete against one another for cash prizes.
The police responded to a 911 call reporting that a stabbing had taken place.
“It was still somewhat on-going when troopers arrived,” said Mulrein.
The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center and treated for several lacerations to his neck and torso area, said authorities.
He has since been released from the hospital according to Mulrein.
Jones has been charged with first-degree assault, a B felony.
He was arraigned in Greenport Town Court before Judge Robert Brenzel and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail and is scheduled to be back in court on Thursday.
Mulrein said that Jones has a prior criminal history.
According to the Register-Star’s records, Jones was arrested by Hudson Police Department Officer Anthony Moon Jr. on Nov. 26, 2008 and charged with third-degree assault for a Nov. 14 incident in which he allegedly assaulted a 26-year-old woman.
Other agencies that assisted in the investigation include the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Hudson Police Department.
The State Police do not believe there is any connection to Friday’s stabbing in Hudson.
In that incident Duhamel Johnson, 18, of Greenport allegedly stabbed a 29-year-old Hudson man around 11 a.m. near 233 State St. in Hudson.
Johnson turned himself in to the Hudson Police Department three hours after the incident, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault.
Anyone who may have witnessed Saturday’s assault, or anyone with information regarding the incident, is asked to call the New York State Police in Livingston at 518-851-2001.
