Letter — Selective enforcement
The zoning laws in Canaan were recently revised after several years. Why bother? There is no enforcement except selectively. Examples:
In-ground pools are not fenced all around. This is a state law, not just a town law. Dumps. Automobile graveyards. One is on the supervisor’s road, not far from his house. Used car dealer/garage, too many vehicles — law allows 25 and two or three in a new building. More than double allowed are on the site, plus a large camper. A cafe operating without a permit and parking on a town road.
We need a supervisor and Town Board who will enforce the regulations equally for everyone, not just selectively enforced as it is now.
Any why does Canaan need to spend $300,000 or more for a salt shed? Neighboring towns in the county and the county shed in New Lebanon are three sided building and have been in use for years. Canaan has a large senior population on limited incomes and they don’t need unnecessary spending and taxes.
Remember, Election Day is the time to stop excessive spending of your tax dollars. It is a time to choose fairness and impartial enforcement for everyone.
