STOP-DWI crackdown continues this weekend
Police will be out in force through Halloween weekend as part of the sixth of seven STOP-DWI crackdown periods across the state this year.
During the enforcement wave, local law enforcement agencies statewide will be utilizing sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to deter drunk driving and ensure the safety of all roadways.
Motorists are reminded that driving with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08 or higher will put them over the limit and under arrest.
STOP-DWI, or “Special Traffic Options Program for Driving While Intoxicated,” is a comprehensive and financially self-sustaining highway safety program.
All 62 counties are participating in the program, which allows each to establish a STOP-DWI Program that qualifies for the return of all fines collected for alcohol and other drug-related traffic offenses occurring within its jurisdiction.
The other STOP-DWI crackdown periods are from Superbowl Sunday, from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2; St. Patrick’s Day, from March 9 to March 17; Memorial Day, from May 21 to May 25; Fourth of July, from June 21 to July 5; National “Over the Limit-Under Arrest Enforcement, from Aug. 21st to Sept. 7; and Holiday Season, from Nov. 20 to Jan. 2.
