Messages advocating a variety of ways to stem climate change, from wearing “wooly” sweaters to walking to work, were silenced by a layer of housewrap Thursday. The Summit Street side of the Philmont Beautification Inc. building, which had been decorated with the messages last weekend as part of a 350.org campaign against climate change, was covered over after the village’s code enforcement officer issued an “order to remedy violation” to Philmont Beautification Inc. Executive Director Sally Baker on Wednesday.

" Reply to Stonepound,
Thank you for your support. The Order to Remedy Violation, issued by the Philmont Building Department was incorrectly issued and incorrectly served. These aspects are being followed-up.
The "Reducing the Footprint" art installation will be preserved and protected on the sides of the 113 Main St. building for future generations to undercover as a living collaboration taken by over 60 residents, including children, artists, musicians and animals creating a part of the global 350 International Climate Day Action. The art installation sent a strong and powerful message through the arts of a collective voice to reduce CO2 emissions and thus, hopefully, will transform the debate into action. We achieved the mission.
Al Gore, yesterday, launched his new project, titled, “Meet Me at The Wall”. A global initiative providing residents of the world to join to add their messages and voices to the wall found at RePowerAmerica.org.
Philmont Beautification, Inc. is in process of adding extensive photo documentation of the art installation, “Reducing the Footprint”, created in Philmont, to the Al Gore's “Meet Me At The Wall” as a living documentation of what took place here in Columbia County. A strong reflection that All Action Starts with Local Action, and that the power of art will never be silenced.
In the meantime, Philmont Beautification, Inc has resumed the renovations for 113 Main St. turning this building into a green efficiency office building using geothermal heating/cooling radiant systems, rain harvesting from the roof, solar powered light, and reducing the landfill by over 40% by recycling materials back into the building and beyond. We live by what we do.
Again, thank you for your support,
Sally Baker "
