What do you think are the top three issues facing your town/city? In 200 words or less on each issue, what would you do to address these issues if elected?
Top 3 issues facing Hudson are jobs, keeping Hudson affordable and real, proactive economic development through completion of the Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan (LWRP) which unlocks our greatest underutilized asset and is the very foundation for Hudson's future.
Jobs, affordability and real economic development are interconnected issues. New businesses in Hudson and the growth of our existing businesses bring jobs. Jobs that pay a living wage help us afford housing and a better quality of life.
As our existing businesses grow and new businesses come to or are started in Hudson, we will see property tax relief. Property tax relief helps property owners as well as renters.
We must start now to put in place the process for real economic growth so that when the Common Council finally approves the LWRP, we are ready to make things happen. Among the key decisions we must begin to make now are: Should there be a Waterfront Development Commission? Who should be on that Commission? Who determines its members? What authority to act should the Commission have? Those decisions should be based on open, public, fact based discussion.
If you are the incumbent, what are you most proud of accomplishing? _
Within the first few months as Treasurer I started an open, fact based public conversation about the City's finances.
I implemented spending controls that stopped payment of vouchers that would have cause budget lines to be overspent.
Through persistent research and networking I brought about an informed public discussion about plans for Hudson Terrace that continues today. I will work just as hard to make sure the Waterfront Revitalization discussion is as fact based and respectful as the discourse about the future of Hudson Terrace has been.
I paid down the City's debt for the construction of the Consolidated Firehouse, which reduced the tax money needed for the yearly lease payments.
