Letter — Judge Gilpatric ‘walks the talk’

Published:

The Democratic candidate for the Supreme Court justice in the 3rd Judicial District is Judge James Gilpatric, who currently serves as a full-time Kingston City Court judge, a position he has held for 16 years. He will be heading up Row A on the ballot this November sharing the line with Democratic candidates for Town Board Bob Balcom and Don Hegeman, as well as James Forster, assessor, and Landra Haber, town clerk/tax collector.

The town candidates are known to the community in varying degrees, however Judge Gilpatric needs a further introduction beyond those who have attended the several political functions that Judge Gilpatric has attended. Hopefully this introduction will convince the reader as it did for me, that Honorable Judge Gilpatric deserves your vote in November.

Briefly, Judge Gilpatric has been a life-long Hudson Valley resident. He was the founding member of the Ulster County Inter-Agency Domestic Violence Council, a board member of the Ulster County Mental Health Community Services Board and chair of the Substance Abuse Sub-Committee and for 17 years a board member of the Rural Ulster Preservation Company.

In this context, Judge Gilpatric has been found qualified by the New York State Independent Judicial Election Qualifications Commissions, he established and presides over the Domestic Violence Court in Kingston, is the presiding judge over the Ulster County Regional Drug Treatment Court and has 30 years experience representing clients in NYS Supreme County.

On Judge Gilpatric’s Web site, www.electgilpatric.com, you will read this, “I practice the principles of common courtesy and respect for human dignity. Fairness will always come first in my court.” I have met Judge James Gilpatric and have come away with the firm belief, as do the Independence and Conservative Parties who have endorsed him, “he walks the talk.”
