Brendan O'Connor

Brendan Declan O'Connor, 53, of Mahopac, New York, passed away peacefully on October 16th, 2009.        

A native of the Bronx, New York, he was born on November 26th, 1955 to the late Jack (Sean) O'Connor and the late Margaret Mary (Mulvihill) O'Connor, of Newcastlewest, County Limerick, Ireland, and the Bronx, and Greenville, New York. He was also the grandson of the late Mike and Peggy Mulvihill of Moyvane, County Kerry and County Waterford, Ireland and Freehold, New York.               

He was a 1973 graduate of St. Agnes School in New York City, and the 1st graduating class of Columbia-Greene Community College in 1975, and a 1977 graduate of Siena College, with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He was Asst. V.P. of the Lumber Division of Eastern Insurance. He spent many of the summers of his youth in the Catskills working at Gavin's Golden Hill Resort, and was a proud former member of the Freehold Fire Department.           


Brendan is survived by his college sweetheart and Beloved wife of 31 years, Susan Strizzi O'Connor, and the lights of his life, his adored children, Kevin, Michael, Cara, and Patricia.           

Also left to cherish his memory are his devoted brothers and sisters and their families, Reverend Monsignor Desmond O'Connor of Blessed Kateri Parish, LaGrangeville, New York, Aidan and Bernadette (Sheehan) O'Connor and their sons, Thomas, Aidan,Jr. and William of Freehold, Nuala O'Connor of Ossining, Deirdre and Scott Giancotti of Hopewell Junction, Maura and Jimmy Fox and their daughters, Erin and Kerri, of Mohegan Lake, Sean and Kathy (Crowley) O'Connor, and their sons, Sean Eion and Michael, of Coxsackie, and Mairead and Billy Fox, and their twin daughters, Katie and Rosie (who were the apple of Brendan's eyes) of Mohegan Lake.       

In addition, he is survived by his loving in-laws, Sue's parents, John and Jean Strizzi of Latham, and sister & brother in law's, Donna & Robert Hathaway, John & Catherine Strizzi, Brien & Colette Strizzi, & Craig & Anne Strizzi, and their families.                 

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Brendan was predeceased by his cherished niece, Kelly Ann Giancotti, in 2005.       

Brendan will be remembered by all those fortunate to have known him as the epitome of compassion, selflessness, devotion, Irish pride, and of unwavering Catholic faith. He was a true example of how one person can leave a positive mark on the world. He was tireless in helping those in need, regardless of what their need might be. No greater legacy could be paid to him than to have others follow on in his spirit and enthusiasm, and continue on his vibrant example of how to live a strong and good life of service.                The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 18th, from 2pm - 6pm, and on Monday, October 19th, from 6pm - 8pm at the Joseph Smith Funeral home, 692 Rte 6, Mahopac, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Brendan's brother, Rev. Monsignor Desmond O'Connor, on Tuesday, October 20th at 10:30am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, East Lake Boulevard, Mahopac, NY. Internment of Cremains will take place at a later date. Ar Dheis De Go Raibh a Anam Dilis.
