Virginia Neefus

 Virginia Witham Neefus, 88, of Hudson, NY died October 9, 2009. Jinny was born August 2, 1921 in Pittsfield, MA. She was the third child of the late Harold and Gertrude Witham.

A life long Hudson resident, Jinny graduated from Hudson High School in 1939, and earned her teaching degree from Potsdam State College. She taught 9th grade math at Altamont for several years before marrying her high school swetheart Wendover (Wendy) Neefus Jr. who predeceased her in 1993.

In 1949 they founded Neefus Photographers. Jinny has photographed thousands of high school seniors, families, children, weddings and pets. Her talent for posing, and she called it "pulling the expression out of people" was magical.

She loved skiing, and was a member of the Catamount Ski Patrol. She taught first aid and CPR and cared for injured skiiers for 23 years.


Jinny Neefus was a very generous, energetic, elegant lady. She was past president of the Friends of Olana and Hudson Junior Service League. Her hobbies were swimming, sewing (quilting) and entertaining at her home.

Surviving her are three sons and daughters in law, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Wendover (Wendy) III his wife Brenda (Donovan) Neefus, and their sons Wendover IV (Cory), Dustin, Seth, and Casey Neefus, Dr. Christopher and his wife Katrina (Nicke) Neefus, their son and daughter Alex and Katie Neefus, Peter and his wife Sandra (Tersigni) Neefus, their son and daughter Justin and Rachel (Neefus) Kerner.

Also surviving is her sister Elizabeth "Liz" Witham Benedict. Jinny was predeceased by her brothers Irving and Charles Witham.

Funeral services are Wednesday 11:00am at the Bates and Anderson-Redmond-Keeler Funeral Home. Visiting hours at the funeral home are today, Tuesday from 6-8pm.

Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
