Wassenhove to speak in Lake George
Albert L. Wassenhove, a Ghent resident and well-known civic leader, will be responsible for the success of a unique panel that will close the all-day conference about Adirondack Park issues to be held at the Holiday Inn Turf at Lake George on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Widely respected for his devotion to the future of the local community and for his civic leadership, Mr. Wassenhove was asked to lead the panel because of his inspiring, positive demeanor, which has made a difference over a lifetime of involvement in Columbia County civic affairs, the latest being the effort to save the old Pine Haven home.
The panel, entitled “The Circle of Ideas,” will bring together all of the attendees and speakers for an hour of dialogue about the theme of the conference, “The Adirondack Park—The Idea, The Experience, The Future.”
The grassroots conference is sponsored by the Property Rights Foundation of America, a Stony Creek, N.Y.-based non-profit educational organization devoted to not only private property rights, but to the future of local rural communities.
The conference will feature grassroots Adirondack leaders and a number of experts on issues related to the Adirondacks drawn from the North Country and elsewhere in New York and the nation.
The speakers will address topics including, “The Takings Clause and Tony D’Elia’s Dream” (Sam Kazman, Senior Counsel, Competitive Enterprise Institute, Washington, D.C.), “The Meaning of the Champlain-Adirondack Biosphere Reserve” (Peter J. LaGrasse, Chairman, Stony Creek Board of Assessors), “The APA’s Racketeering” (Howard Aubin, Councilman, Town of Black Brook), “Challenging Overzealous Zoning” (John S. Marwell, Founding Partner, Shamberg Marwell Davis & Hollis, Mt. Kisco), “Confronting APA Legislation by Regulation” (Dennis Phillips, Esq., McPhillips, Fitzgerald & Cullum, Glens Falls), and many others.
The event, which will begin with registration and a breakfast snack at 8 a.m., is open to the public. In addition to the “Circle of Ideas,” there will be time to dialogue with speakers after each talk and during registration and the luncheon, where all seating is open. It is hoped that the $25 registration fee will not deter anyone who is interested in the rights and the future of the Adirondack people from attending. Special discounts are available; please inquire. Registration at the door will be $30.
