HUDSON — On Oct. 10, shortly after 10 a.m., an 8-year-old girl was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound on the 300 block of Columbia Street. The City of Hudson Police Department was at the scene at 10:12 a.m., where it was discerned that the girl, who had been on her bicycle, came from between two buildings, lost control and drove out into the path of the oncoming vehicle.

The 8-year-old girl was transported by the Greenport Rescue Squad and then by med-flight to Albany Medical Center, where she is currently listed in critical condition.

According to Lieutenant Lynne Finn of the Hudson Police Department, there are no charges pending against the operator of the vehicle, but the matter will continue to be investigated.

" I have great empathy for the person that hit this child. 20 years ago I hit a child on a bike and still live the memories oft that nght. I also know this child's stepfather. It is with great sorrow that I am writting this comment because I know what this person is going through~~the guilt feelings and "What could I have done to prevent this horrible accident from happening". I lived in Virginia Beach at the time and had not told anyone up here about this accident until on Monday 10-12-09. I did not know about the accident because I was out of town for the weekend.
