Columbia Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce that Gary Sheffer, executive director of communications and public affairs for the General Electric company, is the featured speaker at this year's CEO Roundtable. The event will take place in Richmor Aviation's hangar at the Columbia County Airport on Thursday, Oct. 29.

A. Colarusso & Sons and The Bank of Greene County are Platinum Sponsors of the event, which runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited, and advance reservations are required.

Recently named the 13th most powerful communicator in the world by PRWeek, Sheffer attended Hudson City Schools before going on to major in English at Siena College. He spent 17 years in journalism, including a stint at the Register-Star early in his career. Sheffer also worked as a press aide to two New York governors. He joined GE in 1999.

In his role at GE, Sheffer oversees external and internal communications and provides strategic communications advice to GE executives on a wide range of corporate reputation issues. In his address to the CEO Roundtable, Sheffer will argue that the current recession is not an economic cycle, but rather an economic reset. He will make the case that Columbia County is well-positioned to thrive in a reset economy.

Richmor Aviation is the host of this year's CEO Roundtable. Columbia County Airport's FBO (fixed base operator) since it opened in 1968, Richmor is a privately-owned, full-service executive jet charter service. Richmor President Mahlon Richards, along with daughter Sharyn, son Michael, and son-in-law Jim Marks, looks forward to hosting the event. Sharyn Richards was recently elected to the board of CEDC.

“Community service is an important part of our mission,” said Sharyn Richards of her decision to serve on the board. “We feel it's important to share our success with our community and our employees. The county has been good to us and that's why we stay. It's where we've lived for 43 years.” The Columbia County Airport is located on Route 9H in Ghent. Richmor employees will be on hand to direct guests to the parking area.

Additional sponsors for this year's CEO Roundtable are: Gold Sponsors Crawford & Associates, Fingar Insurance, GE and Morris & Associates; Silver Sponsors are Bartolotta Associates, Guterman, Shallo & Alford, Mario's Home Center and National Grid.

Hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine and coffee are all being provided by local businesses, including Hudson-Chatham Winery, Chatham Brewing and many local farms, caterers and restaurants. Bounty of the County is making arrangements for the food to be prepared by local chefs using locally grown food products.

The CEO Roundtable is an annual event of the Columbia Hudson Partnership, which provides economic development services to Columbia County in the form of loans, technical assistance, and classroom training. The CEO Roundtable is open to CEDC members and their guests, and advance reservations are required. All others may make a reservation by calling the Partnership at 518-828-4718. Seating is limited.
