Basketball Referee Classes
Classes for prospective boys basketball referees who reside in either Dutchess, Ulster, Columbia or Greene counties will be conducted by the Central Hudson Valley Board of Approved Basketball Officials.
Classes begin Oct. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Poughkeepsie Middle School and continue every Monday and Thursday up to Nov. 30. At that time there will be a written exam administered.
Interested persons, who are at least 18 years of age, must preregister by calling Sandy Bernstein at 845-471-4084.
Personal Safety Workshop Offered in Kinderhook
The Kinderhook Runners Club, the Kinderhook Memorial Library, the Town of Stuyvesant and the Village of Kinderhook have developed a workshop entitled “Personal Safety for People Who Walk, Run, and Bike Alone.” The workshop will be offered on Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second floor of the Kinderhook Village Hall (6 Chatham Street, Kinderhook).
The workshop will address how to stay safe while exercising outside, self-defense techniques and equipment, tips for road safety and perspectives and advice from local athletes.
Major Robin Benziger from the New York State Troopers will be a guest speaker at the workshop in Kinderhook. Melissa Naegeli and Richard Mattachiero, stewards of the Te Ryu Dojo, will be demonstrating self-defense techniques based on karate.
