McPherson wins Bluehawk Blast 5K

HUDSON — Ken McPherson held off Leeds’ Joe Ottati to win the inaugural Bluehawk Blast 5K at Hudson High School Sunday, according to an e-mail from John Connor.
McPherson and Ottati raced through the first mile in 5:15 to open a wide lead on the rest of the field, with McPherson holding off Ottati to win in 18:01. Ottati clocked in at 18:30. Former Hudson runner Allison Connor won the women’s race in 22:59. Jarid Neal, age 9, won the boys mile in 8:31 with Kaeli Thorton winning the girl’s mile in 9:08.
Members of Hudson’s Class of 2011 and the Hudson cross country team served as course marshals for the race. Anne Connor was the race director.

CATSKILL — Jerry Young made his presence felt on opening night in the All-County Bowling League by pounding the maples and rolling a career-high 253-591 triple but his team, Todd Farrell’s Car Care, still dropped a 3-1 decision to Strongtree Coffee Bar. Josh Leedy tossed a 245-582 to lead the winners. In other action, Chris Ellithorpe’s 242-591 paced Fairview Books to a 3-1 victory over Mike Marquez’s 179-529 and Bagel Tyme. Joe Cefaliello rolled a 243-565 helping the Don Baker Farm get past Hudson Park Restaurant, which was led by Andy Rowe’s 205-556. Bill Martin’s 201-559 led The Lunch Box past Integrated Technologies 3-1. Jerry Gregory led Integrated with a 195-538 triple.
