Three people are behind bars after allegedly trying to sell a stolen gun.

A burglary investigation in Valatie, reported Sunday, involving the theft of a .38 Smith and Wesson, led the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office to three men allegedly trying to sell the stolen revolver.

Keith W. Moulaison, 26, of Kinderhook; 18-year-old Matthew E. Kelly IV of Niverville;  and Christopher Alston, 27, of Richmond, VA, were arrested by Deputies, the S.W.A.T. Team and Criminal Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday around 11:45 a.m. on New Street in Valatie.

Moulaison and Kelly were charged with third-degree criminal sale of a firearm, a Class D felony and fifth-degree conspiracy,  a Class A misdemeanor.  Alston was charged with fifth-degree conspiracy.

The gun was recovered said authorities.

All three were arraigned in the Village of Valatie Court by Judge Steve Berry and remanded to the Columbia County Jail. Moulaison was held on $25,000 cash or $50,000 bail bond, Kelly was held on $15,000 cash or $30,000 bail bond and Alston was held on $2,500 cash or $5,000 bail bond.  Moulaison and Kelly are scheduled to return to Village Court Sept. 28 at 10 a. m., while Alston is scheduled to return to court Oct. 13 at 6 p. m.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, they believe the weapon may have been used in a Home Invasion in Greene County.

Investigators are working with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Hudson Police Department in regard to possible connections to criminal activity in their areas.
