Homeowner calls police as burglars try to invade home
By Andrew Amelinckx
Two Hudson residents were arrested Monday night after allegedly attempting to break into a State Street residence in the city.
According to the Hudson Police Department, Raeshard D. Williams, 18, and 17-year-old Shaquan E. Maurizio were arrested around 10:50 p.m. for trying to break-in to 514 State Street.
The arrests were made by HPD Officer Nicholas Pierro.
“The victim, who was home at the time, called it in,” said Lt. Richard Paolino of the Hudson Police Department.
Paolino said the two men were in possession of burglar’s tools at the time of their apprehension and that they damaged the back door of the residence where they were trying to gain access.
The two suspects were known to the victim, said Paolino, but added that the police do not believe this incident was related to a prior one in July involving Williams.
This is Williams’ third arrest in a four-month period.
On July 30 Williams and three others were arrested by HPD for an alleged fight around 8:22 a.m., on the 400 block of State Street, a block away from the current incident.
In the July 30 matter Williams was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for trying to fight with others, according to authorities.
He had to be restrained during the incident, said police.
He was also arrested June 9 in a dispute over a dog bite that escalated into a fight in which he allegedly slashed a man with a box cutter.
According to HPD, Gordon Brandow, 42, received several wounds from Williams.
The argument was over Brandow’s dog biting one of Williams’ family members, according to Paolino at the time.
Brandow was charged with disorderly conduct and a number of city code violations concerning dogs, while Williams was charged with second-degree assault and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon.
In the latest incident Williams and Maurizio were charged with second-degree attempted burglary, a Class E felony; fourth-degree criminal mischief; and possession of burglar’s tools, both Class A misdemeanors.
Both men were arraigned before Judge Richard Koweek in Hudson City Court.
Williams was remanded to the Columbia County on Jail $7,500 cash or $15,000 bail bond, while Maurizio was remanded to jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bail bond.
