Towns celebrate anniversary of voyage this weekend

The towns of Stuyvesant and Stockport will celebrate the 400th anniversary of 1609 voyage of Henry Hudson up the river that now bears his name this weekend.

“Old Anchorage” events featuring a people parade, a presentation by noted geologist, Robert Titus, and much more will take place Saturday at Stuyvesant Falls from 11 a.m. through early evening.

 On Sunday the focus shifts to Stuyvesant Landing, with brunch at Stuyvesant Fire Co. #1Firehouse beginning at 9 a.m. An ecumenical service at the Dutch Reform Church begins at 11 a.m. An Art exhibit hosted by the Columbia County Council on the Arts in the Town Hall, food, music and Fireworks over the river at See Park will conclude the weekend.

 Riverview Street will be closed to vehicular traffic on Sunday from 3 p.m. on. Transportation will be available from parking area at old school playground. Attendees are invited to bring folding chairs to view Fireworks.

Old Anchorage Weekend schedule

  •  Friday at  7 p.m.  Following the Farmers Market at the Stuyvesant Landing Train Depot the Restoration committee presents the movie “The Lake Before Champlain”
  •  Saturday Stuyvesant Falls Hamlet


Peoples Parade- 11a.m.  Floats. People in period costumes, Vintage autos, 4H, ICC marching band. (Line up at 10 a.m. on West Ghent Rd. Parade to finish at Stuyvesant Falls Firehouse) Hot dogs will be served by explorer Post #65

Pictorial Stamp Cancellation-9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Stuyvesant Falls Post Office and  3 to 5 p.m. at VFW

Historic Photo Displays, Demonstrations, Exhibits. 1p.m. VFW


Photo display at VFW.  Stockport Ladies Aux.- fried dough.  Blacksmithing & fly-fishing demonstrations.

T-shirts and raffle tickets will be on sale at VFW.

Talks & slides: 1 to 3 p.m.  Noted Geologist Bob Titus will do presentation @ St. Mary's Fellowship Hall Stuyvesant falls.

Youth Activities Softball game & other activities @ VFW grounds organized by the Town of Stuyvesant Recreation committee.

Dinner @ VFW: 4 to 7 p.m.  DJ Music by Steve Montie

Artist reception: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. @ Town hall hosted by Columbia County Council on the Arts

Ecumenical Church Service-11a.m. @ Stuyvesant Reformed Church

Brunch-- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. @ Stuyvesant Fire House and Open House 9a.m. to 4 p.m.  “Bouncy Bounce” for kids. Smokey the Bear.

Art Show- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “Take Me To The River” @ Stuyvesant Town Hall. Hosted by the Columbia County Council on the Arts.

Nutten Hook Preserve-1 to 3 p.m.  A chance to be part of an oral history project-tell us your story or that of your grandparents. Visit the Ice House Ruins. Presented by Hudson River Research and Reserve, assisted by Stuyvesant resident Kristina Kwacz.

Afternoon Activities - Sale of Historic Stuyvesant Items, calendars, note cards, pins, tee-shirts @ Firehouse in Landing.

Supper 4 to 6 p.m. — St. John's Lutheran Church Spaghetti Supper.  Adults $10-Children 5-12  $5.

Music-4 to-6 p.m. Live @ the Café, by Olds/Brown

Food!  By Riverview Café at the Landing and the RR Depot

Fireworks-7:30 p.m.  By Empire State Fireworks @ dusk over the River @ See Riverview Park

Sponsored by the Towns of Stuyvesant & Stockport, and Albany Engineering.

Riverview Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 3 p.m..     Bring chairs for viewing fireworks if desired.

Transportation will be provided from parking area at town playground or Town Hall.
