Restaurants to offer 'Taste'

Next Saturday, $1 can buy you a “taste of Hudson” on the 200 block of Warren Street as 16 restaurants and caterers offer a sampling of their dishes.
“There will be stuff for a buck,” said Juliette Crill, local attorney and BeLo 3rd’s treasurer, which is behind the event.
The grassroots organization was started by PM Wine Bar owner Kevin Moran and Crill and Joan Damiani, co-owners of the J. Damiani Gallery. BeLo 3rd works to bring attention, and hopefully customers, to Warren Street, below Third Street.
On Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 2p.m., rain or shine, the 200 block of Warren Street will see street musicians performing and Hudson’s restaurants serving up their food under tents provided by Cantele Tent Rentals.
The street will be closed to traffic until 4 p.m.
The vendors will be set up on the even side of the 200 block of Warren Street across from the small park on the other side of the street.
“The music will probably be centered around the park,” said Crill.
A letter will be going out to the residents of the block concerning the street closure, said Crill.
Moran, the president of BeLo 3rd, said the event was a way for people to finish off their summer.
“It should be pretty nice,” he said.
The event, hoped Moran, will allow people to become familiar with restaurants they might not have been to yet.
He’ll be serving his garlic meatballs and pesto shrimp.
According to Crill, the food runs the gamut “from Jamaican to Italian to fresh produce from Migliorelli’s (Farm Market).”
Chef Danyell Ray, of Georgia Ray’s Catering Fine Foods, described the event as “a street fair” and said that he would be out there serving “applewood smoked pulled pork” and a vegetarian Focaccia bread.
“Something for everyone,” he said.
Besides Georgia Ray’s Catering Fine Foods, other vendors include Olde Hudson, Ca’Mea, Vasilow’s, Verdigris Tea, Vico, Hazel’s Kitchen, Mexican Radio, Savoia, Nolita’s, Tanzy’s, West Indian Natural Foods and Strongtree Organic Coffee.
According to Crill, the idea was to allow people to get a taste of what each vendor is about.
She said they hoped that the event would help generate a buzz about Hudson’s dining possibilities.
“Hopefully people will want to come back to Hudson and dine with their friends,” she said.
The event is free to attend and food prices begin at $1.
Crill said the food could be purchased in $1 increments by buying “BeLo bucks” at the event’s entrance.
According to Crill, BeLo 3rd conceived the idea and then “just made it happen.”
Moran said they decided to keep the event “small and manageable.”
“Hopefully next year we can build upon it,” he said.
Crill told the Register-Star that they hoped this would be the first of an annual event.
She said there would be other BeLo 3rd sponsored events throughout the year and that the organization would have a presence in this fall’s Artswalk and December’s Winterwalk.
Sponsors for “A Taste of Hudson” include the Hudson Rotary Club, the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, Hudson Development Corp., Pro Printers, Fingar Insurance, and the Columbia County Council on the Arts.
