A Massachusetts couple has been charged by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office in relation to two Columbia County burglaries that occurred earlier this month. Three other county residents have also been arrested and charged in unrelated burglaries.
Kalynn Hall, 23, of Dalton, Mass., and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Noah Wixom of Plainsfield, Mass., allegedly broke into Hudson River Tractor on Route 203 in Chatham Aug. 5 and Columbia Tractor on Route 9H in West Ghent Aug. 17 and stole power equipment worth around $13,000, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Hall turned herself in Tuesday to the Sheriff’s Office, was arrested and charged with third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony.
“She was cooperative,” said Lt. James Andrews of the Sheriff’s Office.
Wixom has been charged with third-degree burglary. He is currently being held at Berkshire House of Corrections in Pittsfield, Mass., on unrelated charges and will be facing extradition once released.
“Both of them have more charges pending,” said Andrews.
Sheriff’s Investigators Patrick Logue, Anthony Brahm and Sr. Investigator Kevin Skype recovered the stolen property from five different locations in Berkshire County.
Both the New York State Police in Livingston and the Berkshire County Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation.
Hall was arraigned in Claverack Town Court by Judge Michael Brandon and released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to reappear in court Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.
Three others have been arrested in two unrelated burglaries, one that occurred in Philmont and the other in Ghent.
Wednesday the Sheriff’s Office arrested Jerry W. Smart, 35, of Ghent for an alleged burglary committed three days ago on Stockport Road in the town of Ghent. Smart has been charged with third degree burglary, a class D felony and fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony.
Deputy Sheriff’s recovered the $1,200 power equipment Smart allegedly took during the burglary.
He was arraigned in the Claverack Town Court by Judge Michael Brandon and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bail bond. Smart will return to the Town of Ghent Court Aug. 31 at 10 a. m.
Two men were arrested earlier this month in relation to a Philmont burglary that occurred in late July.
Brandon Luciano, 22, of Hudson and 21-year-old David Zukowski of Philmont allegedly broke into a home on Church Street in the village of Philmont July 27.
Both men have been charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class A misdemeanor.
The arrests were made Aug. 5.
Additional charges may be pending in the case, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s investigators recovered most of the stolen property in the city of Hudson, said authorities.
Both men were arraigned in the Greenport Town Court by Judge Robert Brenzel. Zukowski was released on his own recognizance and Luciano was remanded to the county jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bail bond. Both men were ordered to return to the Hudson City Court at a later date.
