Letter — Chatham Little League has outstanding year
The Chatham Little League Board of Directors and I are very proud of the outstanding level of performance and sportsmanship that was exhibited by our players during regular season and during the 2009 All Star games. The league captured three District titles, three runner-up titles, two Section III titles and two runner-up NYS titles. We thank the players, coaches, parents, fans and sponsors for their tremendous dedication and support. We are extremely proud of both our 11/12 Major and 13/14 Junior Softball players who finished second in the New York state Championship games.
In addition, the league hosted the NYS Junior Softball Championship at the end of July. This tournament could not have been successful without the help of numerous volunteers and sponsors. Our league is very fortunate to have a very dedicated group of volunteers that go above and beyond to give the best possible experience to our players and those that visit league fields. We thank everyone who helped during the tournament and several business sponsors which included Anaconda, Chatham Auto Parts, Chatham Flowers, Coke Cola, Dairy Queen, Davis Tractor and Turf, Hannaford, Madsen Overhead Doors, Mario’s Home Center, Pizza Den, Price Chopper, the Ghent VFW Band and Color Guard and Jim Radley and crew from the VFW.
We continue to have positive growth and great volunteers. I would like to thank the entire 2009 Little League board of directors and their spouses for the many hours they put in when all the players and parents have gone home. Without them maintaining seven fields, two snack bars and over 22 acres we could not provide the best facility in all of Columbia County for our players. I would also like to thank my wife, Anita; she is the voice at opening and closing ceremonies and keeps track of all the loose ends for Chatham Little League. She is a very special person, she not only supports me during the time required to run a league of 400-plus kids and parents, but also spends hundreds of hours throughout the year herself working on Little League tasks. I couldn’t do it with out her help, thanks sweetheart.
The Chatham Little League Board members and I are very proud and fortunate to have had the support of so many people and to have worked with so many wonderful players during this 2009 season. We look forward to the fall season of baseball and next year’s 2010 season.
