Solitaire wins John’s Call at Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS (AP) — Solitaire rallied strongly in the stretch to win the $84,700 John’s Call Stakes by a half-length Friday at Saratoga Race Course.
Julian Leparoux rode 4-year-old Solitaire, who came from well behind the early leaders and ran 1 5/8 miles over a firm turf course in 2:40.56 to win his second race in four starts this season for owner William Clifton Jr. and trainer H. James Bond. The winner’s share of the purse was $50,820.
Solitaire paid $13.00, $6.90 and $5.20. Southwest, the longshot runner-up, paid $26.40 and $12.80 and Silver Mountain paid $6.00 to show.
Rider Edgar Prado was unseated but not injured when Rouge Victory stumbled on the final turn.
