DELMAR - Edward T. Byer, Jr., 79, of Delmar, passed away peacefully at the St. Peter’s Hospice Inn on July 3, 2009 after a long illness.
Born in North Albany he was the son of Edward T. Byer Sr and Rosanna (Maguire) Byer and the beloved and loving husband of Ann (Schako) Byer. He was a graduate of Vincentian Institute and attended Russell Sage. He resided in Delmar for 49 years. Ed was the owner and president of Brooks-Byer Associates, Inc. before his retirement in 1994. He was a communicant and active member of St. Thomas The Apostle Church in Delmar for many years. Prior to founding Brooks-Byer Associates in 1974, Ed was a Vice President with Rose and Keirnan, Inc., an Albany insurance firm where he oversaw its construction surety operations.
Ed was well known within insurance and surety circles, and within New York’s construction industry. He was an active member of the Eastern Contractors Association, Associated General Contractors, and Building Industry Employers, among other groups. He served on many committees and boards over the course of his long, successful career and was the recipient of several recognitions.
Growing up in North Albany during the 1930s and 40s, Ed was a standout athlete, lifeguard and semi-pro football player/coach. As a teen, Ed was a caddie at Wolfert’s Roost Country Club in Albany, where he later became a longstanding member and trustee.
Ed and his beloved wife, Ann, enjoyed spending as much time as possible at their home in Marco Island, Florida. For many years summers were centered around their camp on Vermont’s Lake Bomoseen.
He enjoyed playing golf, significant do-it-yourself renovation projects, moonlight boat rides, traveling with his wife and spending time with his children & grandchildren.
Edward leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Ann (Schako) Byer, his daughter Deborah A. Peck (Gary) of Copake, NY, his son Bradley E. Byer (Donna Carr) of Loundonville, NY, his son John M. Byer and his partner Malcolm Lippert of Jericho, VT. and his daughter Lisa M. Byer of Bennington, VT. Edward was very proud of his grandchildren Ava M. & Elliott E. Byer, Adam W. Peck (Melinda) & Brian V. Peck (Joanne) and great grandchildren Aaron & Tyler Peck.
