GREENVILLE — Norma J. Mattice, 85, of Oak Hill passed away on June 29, 2009 in the Nyack Manor Nursing Home in Valley Cottage. She was born in Hunter on Sept. 18, 1923, daughter of the late Raymond and Cylvia (Spencer) Barlow. Norma graduated from Windham-Ashland-Jewett High School and was a clerical worker for General Electric in Schenectady for a short time. Norma then took the position of postmaster of the Oak Hill Post Office and did so for 30 years until her retirement. She was an animal lover and loved reading and bird watching. She was a caregiver for her friends and enjoyed a good time. She was a member of the Durham Valley American Legion Post 1416 Ladies Auxiliary. Besides her parents, Norma was predeceased by her husband C. Burton Mattice in 2006 and a sister, Louise Simonson.
Surviving are her daughter, Jodi (Mark) Morollo of Valley Cottage; two step-granddaughters, Christine and Stephanie Morollo; a brother, Melvin Barlow; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 Route 81, Greenville. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 1 to 3 p.m. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Durham Valley American Legion Post 1416 will conduct a service at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Norma’s memory to the Durham Valley American Legion Post 1416, the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, SPCA, 125 Humane Society Road, Hudson, NY 12534 or the Mitchell Hollow Chapel, 239 Siam Road, Windham, NY 12496.
