City Republican Committee makes final endorsements

HUDSON - The Hudson Republican Committee has released its endorsements for the Hudson Common Council.

In the First Ward, chairman George DeJesus said the committee will endorse Geeta Cheedie, a democrat. He said she has always worked with both sides and is “intelligent, bright and energetic.”

DeJesus said he wasn’t looking at party lines and wanted someone with something to bring to the table. “I think she’s a great candidate,” he said.

In the Second Ward, the Republicans will endorse Tracy Decker for supervisor. DeJesus said she was active in the Second Ward, and very verbal. He was looking for “someone who will not be intimidated.”

Decker works for the Hudson City School District part-time, and will be full-time in December. DeJesus expressed the fact that “for many years, our representative for Second Ward has done very little.”

William Hollenbeck was endorsed by the committee for Third Ward supervisor. DeJesus explained that Hollenbeck comes with a strong law enforcement background. “He comes with experience, understands government, and understands his constituents,” he said. “When he approached us we were happy to have him.”

For Fourth Ward supervisor, the Republicans will endorse Samuel Santiago. He had considered running previously and approached DeJesus for endorsement this year. DeJesus said he feels Santiago brings energy and changes to the ward, has a lot of great ideas, and would be an asset to the rest of the council. Santiago has worked for Berkshire Farm Services for Youth for at least 10 years and is a volunteer fireman.

The Republican Committee will endorse Richard Goetz as alderman and Bart Delaney as supervisor. DeJesus said Delaney brings experience to the table and called Goetz an experienced alderman who is hopefully re-elected. “We thought that we should keep them there,” he said.

DeJesus said the Republican Committee will also endorse Mayor Richard Scalera in the upcoming election.

“We are completely satisfied with the job he’s done,” he said. “We didn’t feel that we would want to interfere with his ongoing work with the city. Even though the Democrats endorsed him, we are going to go and offer our endorsement to him.”

Scalera did not approach the committee for endorsement.
