Auto accident claims a life
Weekend police activity
PINE PLAINS — The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office has reported a two-car fatal crash that occurred at approximately 1:06 p.m. Saturday in the town of Pine Plains.
Both cars were solely occupied by their respective owners.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1989 Nissan Skyline operated by Brandon Wolf, 26, of New Windsor, was headed east on Route 199 when it crossed the path of a 2002 Honda Civic traveling west on Route 199, operated by Sarah Stevens, 25, of Millerton.
Stevens suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Francis Hospital.
Wolf suffered severe head trauma from the crash and was also transported to St. Francis, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
It appeared that both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit is currently conducting a full analysis of the crash.
LIVINGSTON — The New York State Police at Livingston investigated a two-car personal injury auto accident at the intersection of state Route 9G and county Route 6 in Clermont Saturday.
At approximately 2:40 p.m. a 2000 Mazda Protege operated by Allan Knee of New York City allegedly pulled out from county Route 6 in front of a 2008 Dodge Nitro operated by Vanessa Mergendahl of Rhinebeck. Mergendahl was traveling northbound on Route 9G.
Both vehicles left the roadway after impact.
The Clermont Fire Department was on the scene and had to extricate one passenger in the 2000 Mazda. A total of five people were transported to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie and Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
Knee was issued a ticket for failure to yield by Investigating Trooper Aaron Schrader.
NYS Police at Livingston also investigated a one-car personal injury auto accident on state Route 23 in Claverack at approximately 9:15 a.m. Saturday.
A 1990 Honda operated by Alicia Adamo of Craryville briefly left the roadway. Adamo reportedly overcorrected the vehicle which then crossed over the lanes of travel and struck the former Barnard’s Florist building, where the vehicle came to rest. Adamo was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital for unspecified injuries.
The Claverack Fire Department was on the scene and assisted with traffic control. No tickets were issued.
GHENT — At approximately 12:22 p.m. Saturday Troopers Chad Drozd and Carmen Martino conducted a traffic stop on state Route 9H in Ghent for a vehicle showing erratic operation. The vehicle allegedly crossed the center line of the road several times traveling north on Route 9H. When troopers interviewed the operator, David Kehrer, a strong odor of alcohol was detected coming from the vehicle, said police. Kehrer was administered field sobriety tests, which he failed, and was charged with felony DWI and retained to Columbia County Jail on $10,000 bond/$5,000 cash bail and is scheduled reappear in court July 1.
PHILMONT — On Friday, trooper Brennan Keeler arrested Jason Higley of Philmont for fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property when Higley was allegedly found to be in possession of a stolen license plate. During investigation of the stolen plates, Higley was also charged with petit larceny when he admitted to stealing four tires from Costa’s Garage on Gahbauer Road, said police. Higley was issued appearance tickets to Philmont Village Court July 16.
