Nolan to run for supervisor
By Paul Crossman
GREENPORT — Patrick Nolan announced his intention to run for the position of Greenport town supervisor Tuesday. Nolan’s main goal in running for this position is to help provide the residents with effective leadership at both the town and county levels.
Nolan has lived in Columbia County for nearly his entire life, graduating from the Ichabod Crane Central School District in 1983, and moving to the Greenport/Hudson area in the mid-1980s. Since that time he has been involved in the community beyond his job in municipal government, including volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He is also the father of three children who go to the Hudson City School District, ages 17, 15 and 11.
“My experience working in municipal government makes me well aware of the demands placed on the position of town supervisor,” said Nolan in a press release.
Though he has always been interested in town government, it is only recently that Nolan found the time to really give the job of supervisor the effort and attention it deserves.
“I have the time, and I have the background,” he told the Register-Star. “This is the perfect opportunity for me to throw my hat in the ring for town supervisor.”
In addition to his desire to provide Greenport with more effective leadership, based on the information now available, Nolan favors keeping DSS in the city of Hudson and Pine Haven in the village of Philmont.
“It’s the human factor that needs to be taken into account on both issues,” said Nolan. “They’re talking about taking elderly people and uprooting them.” He went on to say that he believes more research is necessary about the amount of people walking and being bused to DSS before a move should even be considered.
“I don’t know if they have all the figures,” he said. “It’s kind of early to say ‘let’s do this.’”
