CHATHAM — Despite concerns about the $26,808,965 Educational Plan and Budget for the Chatham Central School District (CCSD), voters passed the budget by a margin of 542 to 301. The budget is $260,374 more than last year’s adopted budget plan, which was $26,548,591.
Similarly, New Lebanon School District (NLSD) passed its $12,901,428 budget for 2009-2010 by a 275 to 91 margin.
Chatham taxpayers will see a .98 percent increase in their tax levy, while New Lebanon will see a zero percent increase in their tax levy.
For the CCSD board of education seats, Dr. John Wapner received 516 votes for a three-year seat while Jeannean Cheney received 475. She will serve the remaining unexpired one-year term of Ric Campbell.
NLSD also had two seats available on the board of education, with incumbent Monique Wood receiving 280 votes and write-in Tracy Bingham receiving 37 votes. Both seats are for three-year terms.
Proposition #1, the Student Ex-Officio Proposition passed for CCSD by a margin of 608 to 201. The proposition will give a high school student the opportunity to serve on the board of education. The student will sit with board members at all public meetings and be allowed to participate in all board hearings.
