Helen Cole Netter

Helen Cole Netter, 96 of Pine Plains, NY died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie, NY.

Born April 4, 1912 in Pine Plains she was the daughter of the late Harrie Cole and Mary Wilber Cole.

She was a graduate of the Pine Plains High School, Skidmore College with a BA in English at the State University of New York at Albany with an MS in Library Science. She taught English at the Pine Plains Central School and later was the librarian at the Pine Plains Free Library. She also worked for the 5 county Mid-Hudson Library System as the adult services consultant.

Helen was a life long member of the Episcopal Church of the Regeneration in Pine Plains where she was organist and served on the altar guild. She was a former member of the Pine Plains Council of Churches and was a member of the Little Nine Partners Historical Society, the New York Altar Guild and the Chancellor Livingston Chapter of the DAR.


On July 2, 1942 she married E. Matthew Netter who pre-deceased her in 1990. She is survived by a daughter, Mary (John) Phillips of Kinderhook, NY and grandson Matthew Phillips.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Church of the Regeneration in Pine Plains.

Internment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be offered to the Church of the Regeneration Endowment Fund of the Little Nine Partners Historical Society.
