Police: Driver may have been drinking, fell asleep at the wheel
CLERMONT - Police believe a Clermont man may have been drinking and may have fallen asleep at the wheel, resulting in a one-car rollover accident early Saturday morning on Route 9.
According to the State Police at Livingston, Bryan Prinz, 18, of Clermont, was operating his vehicle northbound on Route 9 when the car exited the east shoulder and struck an embankment which caused the car to go airborn, flip over and come to rest on its roof.
Prinz had to be extricated by the Clermont Fire Department. He was treated by Northern Dutchess Paramedics and taken by helicopter to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie where he was diagnosed with a fractured vertebrae, both lungs partially collapsed and a concussion.
Charges are pending against Prinz, including driving while intoxicated.
The accident was investigated by Sgt. Yvonne Boucher, and troopers Carmen Martino, Eric Buchinsky, Andrew Behrens and Kevin Klein.
