Book signing to take place at Hudson Opera House
By Andrew Amelinckx
Hudson Talbot will be speaking about his new book at the Hudson Opera House at 2 p.m. March 8.
“Hudson is going to talk about his new book ‘River of Dreams,’” said Joseph Herwick, deputy director of the Hudson Opera House, located at 327 Warren St., in Hudson. “There will be books available to buy and to have signed.”
Herwick said that in similar events in the past Talbot has brought the original watercolors he painted for his books. “It’s a family friendly event,” he said. “And it’s free and open to the public.”
Ned Sullivan, president of Scenic Hudson, will also speak that day. Scenic Hudson is an environmental organization that was founded in 1963.
Sullivan said he would be talking about the Hudson Valley and how citizens can help improve the environment and quality of life, both locally and regionally.
Scenic Hudson is credited with launching the grassroots environmental movement in America and helping to save Storm King Mountain — located south of Cornwall-On-Hudson — from being destroyed by a proposed Con Edison power plant.
Sullivan said he will also be talking about the fight to save the mountain, which is featured in Talbot’s new book.
The event will also feature composer Frank Cuthbert and director Casey Biggs, along with local high school students who will be performing pieces from an upcoming musical, based on Talbot’s book and also titled “River of Dreams.”
The event is part of the Quadricentennial Celebration of Henry Hudson’s voyage up the river that now bears his name. In 1609, Hudson, an Englishman in the employ of the Dutch East India Company, traveled the length of the river looking for a shortcut to China, but instead helped lay the groundwork for the Dutch colonization of what is now New York.
