Member of Elizaville Pumper Co. #2
Rosario Mario “Shorty” Raimondo, 80, of Elizaville, passed away February 1, 2009, at The Thompson House in Rhinebeck after a lengthy illness.
Shorty was born September 8, 1928 in NYC to Italian immigrant parents the late: Mary Montivido and Anthony Raimondo. On May 15, 1949 he married his late wife Anna Elizabeth Tanzillo. Together they moved from NYC to Elizaville in 1955 and were the proud parents of three sons — Peter, Anthony and John. A firefighter since August 3, 1955, he was a life member of the Elizaville Pumper Company #2, served as secretary, Lieutenant and Assistant Chief. He became a member of the Linlithgo Reformed Church in Livingston in 1986.
A hard worker, Shorty enjoyed carpentry and was employed by Painters Union of Poughkeepsie as a taper. He passed down his woodworking skills to his three sons and he and Anna raised them with integrity, honesty and a gentle kindness and their home was open to family and friends. After retirement, Shorty and Anna enjoyed taking trips with the Southern tier Senior Citizens of Columbia County. He was an integral part of the community and will be missed tremendously — by everyone.
Survivors include his three sons and their wives, Peter and Lee Raimondo of Sherman, NY, Anthony and Ginger Raimondo of Fayetteville, NC and John and Ellen Raimondo of Red Hook, NY; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth Dollar, Angela Rosebrough, Jennifer Raimondo, Govina Taylor and Oliver Forde; one great-grandson, Elijah Rosebrough; one sister, Lucy Rackoff of Fayetteville, NC; and nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his wife: Anna Elizabeth Tanzillo who died May 11, 1997; and siblings Louie Fugazy, Catherine Fugazy, Phillip Raimondo and Camilla Raimondo.
Calling hours will be Friday, February 6, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home of Germantown.
Funeral services are Saturday, February 7 at 10 am at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at the Livingston Rural Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Shorty’s memory are requested to the Elizaville Pumper Company #2, Inc., 1575 Co. Rt. 19, Elizaville, NY 12523.
